Information

For twenty years, L&D has argued that people need answers at the moment of need, inside the work. The argument was right, but we built a bigger catalogue instead. Now that people can get a reliable answer mid-task, the question is no longer whether learning moves into the flow of work, but how we design for it. Cheryl Yuran, CHRO of Absorb Software, shares how her team replaced its onboarding course with a question set, a source map, and a structured manager conversation, plus lessons from customers already putting this approach to work.

During this session, you will learn:

  • How to turn an onboarding course into a question set, a source map and a structured manager conversation, using the three artifacts Absorb’s own team built when it retired its onboarding course, including what has worked and what is still being tested.
  • How to write a question worth designing, which is now the core craft. What makes a question productive, why it has to be one that cannot be closed with a single search, and how to tell one apart from a quiz item.
  • How to run this with one cohort next week and what to measure instead of completions, including time to a trusted answer and the practice of treating every question your system answers badly as a design brief.
